Why is this so important?

We must continue our commitment to truth and reconciliation with the T’Sou-ke Nation.
The T’Sou-ke Nation and the District of Sooke share the same community, the same local economy and many of the same challenges. That makes the Nation a natural partner in finding practical solutions to the issues that affect all of us.
There are enormous opportunities to work together on local economic development, food security, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and securing federal and provincial funding.
Reconciliation is not simply about acknowledging our history. It is also about building a stronger relationship today—one based on respect, communication and practical collaboration.
We should not allow unfounded fears or assumptions to create unnecessary distance between neighbours and potential partners. When we work together, we can accomplish more for both communities.
Truth means recognizing where we are. Reconciliation means building where we go next—together.
